What stays on your iPhone

Your bookmarked bills, selected U.S. state, and optional 5-digit U.S. ZIP code are stored locally on your device using iOS on-device storage (UserDefaults). Your bookmarked bills are never uploaded to any server.

Location & district lookup

You can use Ledger by selecting any U.S. state or entering a 5-digit U.S. ZIP code without granting location access. If you tap Use Current Location, Ledger uses iOS CoreLocation on-device to determine your coordinates and query your state and federal legislative districts. Location coordinates are used only for that lookup and are never stored on external servers, sold, or used for advertising.

Public legislative data sources

To display live bills, roll-call votes, representatives, and committee hearings, Ledger requests public legislative records from official and nonpartisan civic sources, including the official Congress.gov API and the OpenStates API v3, as well as legislator roster files hosted on GitHub. Standard network requests include your IP address as required for internet communication, and are governed by those providers' respective terms.

No accounts, analytics, or ads

Ledger does not require registration, does not include third-party analytics or crash-reporting trackers, and does not serve advertisements.

Deleting your data

You can clear your saved bills or change your state/ZIP code inside the app at any time. Deleting Ledger from your iPhone permanently removes all locally stored app data.

Children

Ledger is a general-audience civic reference app and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a revised effective date.
